The C3Perform Approach

Achieving Excellence

The C3Perform Approach to performance improvement revolves around a process of self-assessent using the C3Perform self assessment tools. These tools are built upon the success of the EFQM Excellence Model, which reviews all aspects of an organisation. It is underpinned by eight concepts of excellence reflecting the key characteristics of high performing organisations. The Excellence Model encourages organisations to focus on the results you want to achieve and actions to achieve them, helping you to become more customer and results focused.

The Excellence Model encourages organisations to focus on the results they want to achieve and actions to achieve them, helping them become more customer and results focused. The Excellence Model offers two interdependent sections Results and Enablers:

Results: relate to what an organisation Achieves: customer results; people results; society results; key performance results.

Enablers - relate to what an organisation does to achieve its results: leadership; policy and strategy; people; partnership and resources; processes.

Identified results are used to inform and shape the ‘enablers’ that will help improve future activity. This is defined as the ‘cycle of continuous improvement’.

The C3Perform Toolkit and Learning Zone offers you a tailor made range of resources and tools designed to help your organisation assess its own performance, develop an action plan and implement improvement processes. The process will also help you to better identify and commission any specific support that may be needed.

The C3Perform Toolkit is the result of research to identify an effective approach to performance improvement for third sector organisations. The research undertaken in 2004 by the C3Partnership confirmed that a high number of organisations in the third sector wanted to engage with performance improvement but were not ready for an accredited quality assurance scheme. In response to these results, this Toolkit has been designed and tested to enable continuous improvement within the sector and prepare organisations for accredited schemes.

Improving Third Sector Performance

Excellent organisations know that there is always the potential to improve. Whether it is better meeting the needs of your customers or improving your social impact, establishing processes for improvement can help organisations become more competitive, confident and credible. The C3Perform approach enables you and your organisation to:

  • Meet your goals and achieve your values
  • Offer better products and services
  • Attract new investment
  • Develop your income and resource base
  • Compete for public and private sector contracts
  • Empower more people to participate successfully in the sector.

The C3Perform Toolkit has been designed to help organisations navigate and select a systematic approach to effectively improve performance. It contains practical guidance and user feedback, plus signposting to advice and support services, alongside training and learning opportunities.

The C3 tools have been developed specifically for third sector organisations including social enterprises and co-operatives, voluntary and community organisations. The sector innovates and delivers a wide range of vital products and services that help improve ‘quality of life’ for diverse communities across the regions including childcare and community transport, local food and recycling, sports and healthcare.

Continuous performance improvement helps sustain and grow the sector. It promotes a ‘learning culture’, higher quality products and services that meet customers’ needs, new training and employment opportunities, increased motivation and satisfaction among staff and volunteers. Excellent organisations are better equipped to attract and secure new trade and investment for the sector.
